Week 1 Assignments

The Pre-Summer Week is now officially over, so here are your assignments for Week 1 (due June 30th).

COMPASS LEARNING
You will see new VSS folders and activities in your math and language arts folders.  Remember that when the VSS folder disappears then you have completed all of your assignments for this week.  Don't forget that you can earn bonus points for completing extra activities after you finish your VSS folder.

READING
Keep submitting those Reading Tracker forms for all books that you finish.  Take a look on the right hand side at how many books we have submitted already!  Let's see if we can reach 1,000 books this summer!

A new reading passage has also been placed under the "Weekly Reading Forms" section for each grade level.  Make sure you are completing the form for the grade level you just completed (unless I have recommended that you do a different level).

WRITING
***Weekly Writing Prompt*** Write about your favorite book that you read this past school year.

Grade 2 Expectations:  Make sure you tell me the title and the author's name.  What was the story about?  What made it a great book?  Give as many reasons as you can.

Grade 3 Expectations:  Create a SHARED Google Doc titled "My Favorite Book".  Make sure you tell me the title and the author's name.  What was the story about?  What made it a great book?  Give lots of reasons.  Give a good description of your favorite part in the story.

Grade 4 & 5 Expectations:  Create a SHARED Google Doc OR Google Presentation titled "My Favorite Book".  Include all of the information listed in the Grade 3 expectations if you are writing in a Google Doc.  If you would like to do a presentation, be sure to include a title slide with the title of the book and the author's name as well as a picture of the book cover (making sure to cite the website where you got the picture).  You can also have a slide for each of the following categories:  Characters, Main Idea, Why I Loved It, About the Author, and Citations.

THIS WRITING PROMPT CAN ALSO EARN YOU UP TO 10 BONUS POINTS IN READING, SO MAKE SURE YOU GIVE IT A SHOT!!!

MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF YOUR DOCUMENTS ARE BEING PLACED INTO YOUR 2014VSS FOLDER THAT YOU CREATED DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR (EXCEPT FOR 2ND GRADERS, WHO CAN DO THEIR WRITING IN A NOTEBOOK).

YOU SHOULD ALSO BE CHECKING THE COMMUNICATION DOCUMENT IN YOUR VSS FOLDER TO SEE HOW MANY POINTS YOU EARNED FOR PRE-SUMMER WEEK ASSIGNMENTS!
